A Hundred People asked me :WHAT is M.DES ??
Yes I m a M.Des student, ha sunne mein dawai ka name lagta hai par badhiya course hai ...
The revelation that changed my life :
M.DES DOESNT HAVE EXAMS !!!
All the students of the college are certainly jealous of our no exam status... but do they know about the kgs of assignments that we are loaded with all year round.... NO !
We are taught how to think differently, how to communicate properly using different kinds of multi media. We are taught photography, videography, web designing and a lot more.....
Everybody keeps asking and those who dont ask ..keep wondering : M.DES mein padhate kya hai ?? and some people have even bigger better doubts : MDES mein padhate bhi hai ??
The biggest reason of envy is that we are just 7 students and some of the best teachers provided us one to one education. The exposure is enormous. The pressure equivalent. The fun unlimited.
Lets focus on the subjects we will be taught all through the course...( I will certainly stay away from the boring details)
Semester 1
1. Approaches to Culture and Communication
Prof. Visvajit Pandya teaches the ACC subject. It makes us think about the culture, explore the hidden meanings. He gave us a reading on the Balinese cockfight and taught us how it said something about something and represented the culture of Balinese people. Then we visited the calico museum and saw the crisscrossing of conceptual lines. He further gave us another reading from mythologies and we had to study symbols and signs. Through various readings and brainstorming sessions we are taught about the culture so that we can communicate properly.
2. Fundamentals of Design
Prof. Binita Desai teaches us the FOD. She gives us different presentations. We read them, understand the concepts and apply them to make various patterns. There are several concepts like radiation, gradation, similarity, structure, anomaly and much more.
3. Object Oriented Programming
Prof. Navin Kumar teaches us JAVA, and we also have a couple of labs conducted where in we majorly work on JAVA. Its easy if you have been struggling over it since 4 years in engineering.
4. Principles of Interaction Design
Prof. Nitin Raje teaches us PID, he gives at an average 8 assignments per lecture and some stupid people like me even complete each and every assignment. We discuss problems solutions and study a lot of new concepts like ergonomics, affordance, visual comfort etc etc.
5. Writing Presentation and Communication skills
Prof. AditiNath Sarkar teaches us WPS and he gives several writing assignments and we work on different readings and the long term project he has assigned is construct a memorial for Dhirubhai Ambani.
The subjects to follow : Narratology, more design fundamentals, web designing, animation, simulations, modelling, thematic workshops, reading/research , and much more ....
