Studying the signifiers and signified stuff at Conflictory museum....

 They aimed at representation of conflict through different mediums


Signifier : Darkness
The quietness and stark darkness makes us introspect ourselves and feelings towards humanity, diverse nature of humanity.Using art as a medium the museum creates a space to engage visitors in making meaning. It is participatory museum.  It uses art to create a dialogue. 

 SIgnifier : Mirror
Sitting in front of the same mirror used by Ahmedabad’s first hair stylist gives us energy and amazing feeling.we can see the conflict inside us through our eyes only. mirror shows us the conflict within us.

Signifier : Memory Jar
We are encouraged to touch, open and see things. We can be an active participant. We can share our feelings and pain and try to forget it. It recounts the narratives of common man. It tries to engage the youth in educational and preachy manner


Signifier: Sorry Tree
The tying of the sorry tag on the tree signified the action of asking for an apology to the near and dear ones. 

 Signifier: News Articles
The news articles represented the conflicts the gujaratis have gone through and the difficulties they have struggled through. It is a cluster of people of different religions. We can understand conflict in changing environment and communicate compassionately.
It houses different conflicts that Gujarat has witnessed in the past. It is timeline of conflict, inner purity, moral compass, memory, power, perspectives.


Conflictorium acts as a “sign” of conflicts. It tries to represent conflicts through various objects.
Signifier: Mirror
The mirror acts as a signifier of reflection. It makes us visualize the conflict within through our eyes only. 
Signifier: Memory Jar
The jar signifies how we bottle up our sorrows inside us and this activity encourages us to share our pain and try to forget it. 
Signifier: News Articles and objects
The news articles and objects kept alongside represented the conflicts the Gujaratis have gone through and the difficulties they have faced. Signifier: Movie Clippings 
People try to imitate and follow their favorite celebrities, the movie clippings showing various scenes where in actors apologize to each other signified how we need to learn to apologize to our near and dear ones.

Time runs when we want it to stop ... and I somehow feel during the lecture hours time runs backwards ! The clock hands run anticlockwise ! The world is what it is

University College in oxford is an old college established for studying theology two centuries before Trinidad was named. It has famous alumni such as, P.B.Shelley, Clement Attlee, Harold Wilson and C.S.Lewis. There was a relief structure of William Jones in the chapel.It was a conservative men’s college with gender segregation The university life was staunchly male except meeting women in lectures or through other activities.
