Cocks are the symbolic expressions of owner’s self. Balinese men not only identify themselves and their genital organs with the cocks but also what they fear, hate and are fascinated by. Cocks act as a symbol for pride, honesty, courage, arrogance, strength, rage, watchfulness and a fresh start, a new beginning. Cock represents a hero, warrior and it is a clash of man’s ego.
Cocks symbolize human status: Animality. They are mirrors of their owners’ personality. There are different types of cocks reflecting that there are different kind of men. Cocks show the aroused masculinity and the ideal self-man wants himself to become.
Cockfights are referred to as- status bloodbath where the Cocks are the status symbols for Balinese people and they determine the position of people in the social hierarchy. The people away from the economic circle will make smaller bets. While others will throw in large amount of money but everybody bets with people of their class. It is their honor and dignity at stake. For the Balinese cocks display their social order, hatred, masculinity and demonic power. All the scores are settled in the cockfights.
Another level of deep play is how Balinese support their kin or allied kin group, the local cocks even if it is their underdog. This display the human nature to get united, support and back up their friends and relatives. Cockfights show how people try to be loyal and try to avoid betting in case of cross loyalty situations

The cockfight not only provides an insight to the Balinese culture but also how the society functions, the rituals and social networks… Through all these levels of deep play, bird acts as a symbol.
