Shamiana nahi dekha to kya dekha ??
A little bit of Dhishum Dhishum, melodious music, a romantic
sequence topped up with comedy ... That’s what defines a film for us
BUT Shamiana opens the gate to an entirely new world for us.
It introduces us to the world of short films. SHORT BUT DHAMAKEDAR! They
showcase one of the best short films around the world. Short films are less
than 40 minutes long but they wield entire magic and tell the story of 400
years within the short time interval assigned to them. They deliver a beautiful
message and thoroughly entertain us. There are short films which don’t even need
any dialogues and it best demonstrates how much silence can speak.
If you are a first timer at SHAMIANA … you surely are going
to be surprised, and stay glued in. The ambience of Natrani added to our
delight and we didn't even have time to blink our eyes. It’s not just the joy
of watching a movie with full house on a big screen under the starry night… We
can learn a lot from the interactions between the directors and the audience.
Observing the tactics used and appreciating the local talent was the highlight
of the show. Of course those personalising and socialising moments with the
organiser “Cyrus Dastur” and gang… and the live band added to the fun!! We even
had a great time in the very cosy classy cafeteria! (Being students we are
bound to be attracted to the canteens :D)
The screened movies:
To begin with my favourite:
“INBOX”
It was a tiny love story. A gal buys a cute teddy bear from
a shopping mall and keeps it in a bag which is connected to another one, so the
shopkeeper separates the bag but the connection still remains. A guy is shown
who is very sad that he doesn't have a girlfriend. He buys a Jockey underwear
and keeps it in his bag. When both the shoppers reach home they realize their
bags are exchanged… but actually its not the bags that are exchanged. The bag
has connection that whatever is kept inside is exchanged. The guy puts in a
sticky note with a message and the girl receives it… she replies.. And that’s how
they start communicating. They even play cards.
Guy: will you meet me?
Girl: it took you so long to ask that?
The guy is extremely happy and starts dancing with the bag
but the bag is torn and the connection is broken. He goes to the shop again but
it’s closed, so he sits on the bench and there he meets her and both of them
take out sticky notes from their bags …
Boy: Sorry :(
Girl: Missed you!
The real fun is not in reading but in watching!!!
“CUPIDITY”
It was the story of a girl in love. She was a waitress in a
restaurant and she was in love with a regular customer but that guy never
looked at her. She was extremely shy but she could sing very well. The management
made her sing everyday but the love of her life never bothered to even look at
her. She was very sad but she helped a beggar. Now the beggar decides to help her
and gives her a book to learn sign language to talk to deaf people. She learns them by studying from the book. The next
day when the time comes for her to sing, the owner of the restaurant switches
of the lights so all the customers focus on her including the love of her life.
The girl sings along with signs and the guy she loves finally understood what
she meant to say and this way she expressed her love!
There were few more very beautiful movies
“MOCHI” “LEMONS ARE NOT SOUR” and each was a revolution in
its own. I writing their story down wouldn’t actually highlight the magic they
created. One has to see to experience.
