Old Taxis in Junagadh
Mohammad Mahabat Khanji III was the nawab at the time of Independence. Junagadh's population was predominantly Hindu and only 1/5th of the total population was of Muslims still the nawab decided to accede to Pakistan. Pakistan accepted but Indian government took drastic action. Nawab of Junagadh, his family and prime minister flew to Pakistan leaving everything. There was a referendum where 99 percent of people who voted chose India and rest from 2 million chose Pakistan. Junagadh was merged into Saurashtra. Later on in the state of Bombay and then in Gujarat. As the nawab left leaving everything, the drivers assigned to take care of the cars became the owners. Then someone from kolkata bought couple of cars.
There were different cars like lion ford, mercury and Plymouth. There were 5-10 cars running regularly till around 2007 . The old ford taxis with matador engines in 80s around girnar and diesel MUVs. Still there are ford fiesta's running from Junagadh to baroda
