The New Citroen




Modern cars are supreme creations of our era, passionately and anonymously created and universally consumed magical objects.

The new Citroen appears to be a superlative object come as a messenger from a world above nature. The DS has all the features of one of those objects of another universe. The DS is compared to the fictional submarine which suggested that one can perform tremendous journeys.

The DS is smooth, seamless and rounded. The junctions excite interest due to the components and the perfection with which they are welded giving a wondrous shape which prepares us for the idea of a favourable nature. The dove tailing of its sections interest the public most. One likes to finger the window edges and the wide rubber grooves linking back windows to metal body. 


The DS’s material promotes lightness in magical sense. There is certain degree of streamlining, the car is less bulky, less incisive and more relaxed. Spiritualization can be seen in the quality and material of glasswork. DS is raised from glass and pressed metal is just to support it. Windows are like openings pierced in a dark shell, walls of air and space with curvature. Citroen emblem has become like a winged emblem depicting spontaneous motion.

DS marks a change in the mythology of cars. It is now more spiritual, object like and homely. The dashboard looks like the working surface of a modern kitchen due to the slim panes of matt fluted metal, the small levers topped by a white ball, simple dials and discrete nickel work signifying exercised control over motion conceived as comfort.

The DS is explored with an intense and amorous studiousness. It is that phase of discovery where in the visual wonder will be attacked by touch. The bodywork, lines of unions touching each other, tried seats, caressed doors and fondled cushions will make one pretend to drive with whole body.
